Forest bathing / Shinrin Yoku
"Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better." Albert Einstein
Forest bathing is guided by Lisen Sundgren, a trained nature and forest therapy guide, herbalist, author, and meditation and breathwork teacher. For Lisen, nature is a natural place for recovery, inspiration, and presence. A space where the pace slows down, thoughts become clearer, and the relationship with both oneself and one's surroundings deepens.
Forest bathing, or Shinrin Yoku, is a scientifically based method developed in Japan in the 1980s in response to stress-related ill health in an increasingly urbanized society. The method is based on "bathing" in the forest atmosphere and taking in nature through all the senses—sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. In the forest, we also breathe in phytoncides, natural substances from plants that strengthen the immune system and contribute to increased well-being.
Documented effects of forest bathing include lower blood pressure, calmer breathing, reduced stress levels, improved immune system, increased creativity, and a stronger sense of connection and presence. Many also experience deeper contact with themselves and others, as well as a relaxing break in nature. For groups, forest bathing can contribute to increased understanding, more open communication, and new perspectives.
A forest bathing walk takes place together with a certified guide in a natural area. Through simple, gentle exercises, the pace slows down and the senses open up to the present moment. Everything is done on the participants' terms, without performance or demands. The experience ends with a tea ceremony flavored by the surrounding nature.
